Protect your Cash
Have cameras that look at your till. This also deters staff from stealing.
Mark equipment and display signs explaining this to thieves
Keep as little cash as possible on the premises
Remove money from the premises overnight, and leave the till open and empty
Display prominent signs saying: “No money left on premises” or “time delays are in operation.
Bank safely. Count and prepare cash out of sight in a locked room.
Vary your route and time when you pay money in or collect cash from the bank
Don’t play the hero if attacked
Work out your emergency response to a major incident such as armed robbery. Make sure your staff know what to do.
Protect your Stock
Train employees in how to reduce opportunities for shoplifting and how to apprehend shoplifters
Keep store neat and orderly. Use mirrors to eliminate ‘blind spots’.
Keep merchandise awayfrom store exits to prevent grab-and-run situations.
Keep displays full and orderly, so missing items are easily spotted.
Keep expensive merchandise in locked cases. Limit the number of items employees remove at anyone time.
Design exits so all persons must pass store employees or security staff. Consider the use of an electronic article surveillance system.
Think about installing CCTV. Make sure that it covers your store room as well as areas accessible to customers.
Watch dressing rooms and rest rooms at all times and limit number of items taken into dressing rooms.

Securely lock all entrances and exits when nobody is on the premises. Do not leave keys lying around.

Keep windows free from displays and posters so staff can see anyone hanging about and who’s entering the premises.

Install good external lighting and locking gates where necessary. Think about where thieves might hide around your premises

Stop Fraud
Control who has access to equipment, documents and computers to prevent any unauthorised use.
Train your staff in your security systems and make your disciplinary policies clear.
Divide duties (where possible) between staff so any irregularities will be spotted and introduce appropriate supervisory and monitoring controls.
